Onion chutney in Tamil – How to make vengaya thuvayal

Ingredients 

Onion – 4

Tomato – 3

Garlic – 4 cloves

Tamarind – small amla size

Asafoetida ( hing / perunkayam ) – 1/5 tsp

Urud dhal – 1 1/2 tsp ( to grind )

Mustard seed – 1/2 tsp ( to grind )

Urud dal – 1/2 tsp ( for seasoning )

Mustard seed – 1/2 tsp ( for seasoning )

Coriander leaves

Dry chilli – 2
Method 

1. Heat 2 tsp of oil, add mustard seed and urud dal ( to grind ), when urud dal starts to change colour, mustard seed starts to splutter add garlic, dry chilli, stir for 2 minutes . Then add hing, onions and saute till they turn light brown.

2. Now add tomatoes and saute till it becomes mushy. Finally add chopped coriander leaves, salt and stir for a minute. Let this onion chutney mixture cool down for room temperature.

3. Once it cools down, grind it to a fine paste. Serve this Onion chutney with dosa or idli . Try this onion podi uthappam..
