This sambha rawa dosa / onion wheat rava dosa is one of the friendly recipe for diabetes, which is prepared from broken wheat rawa. Choosing fine wheat rawa turns this gothumai dosai more crispy.  Tamil video of this recipe is embedded below.

Ingredients for batter

Wheat rawa / gothumbai ravai / sambha rava – 1 cup

Idli or dosa batter – 1 cup


Rice flour – 3/4 cup

Maida / all purpose flour – 2 tbsp

Curd – 2 tbsp

Hing / asafoetida – 1/2 tsp

Green chilli – 1

Curry leaves – 1 tbsp

Cumin seed – 1 tsp

Chopped ginger – 1 tsp

Onion chopped – 2 tbsp


Stuffing ingredients

Onion chopped – 1 cup

Green chilli – 1 tbsp

Curry or Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp


1. Mix all the ingredients under the list ‘ Ingredients For Batter ‘, which should be watery like thick buttermilk. Adding maida helps to bind the ingredients and also it will be easier to flip the wheat rava dosa on tawa. Set aside.

2. In a kadai, heat a tsp of oil and saute the stuffing ingredients, ie, a cup of onion, green chilli and curry leaves till brown. Set aside.

3. Heat the tawa, pour a ladle of batter and spread the batter by moving the tawa in a circular manner like appam. Add a tsp of oil in the holes of the rava dosa and at the corners, cover it and let it cook for a minute. Then flip it over and again cook until crisp.

4. Now place 3 tbsp of sauteed onion at the center of the onion wheat rava dosa and fold it. Serve this rawa dosa with coconut chutney and sambhar.
