Paruppu Vadai in Tamil – Masal vadai seivathu eppadi

This paruppu vadai recipe, which is also called as aama vadai or masal vadai will never go wrong for anyone. This snack is one of the rich protein snack prepared with chana dal ( bengal gram ) and some spices. Now let us learn this paruppu vadai


Bengal gram – 150 g ( kadalai paruppu )

Suji rawa – 3 tbsp ( rice rawa)

Dry chilli – 2 no.

Ginger chopped – 1 tbsp

Cumin seed -1 tbsp

Asafoetida / hing – 1/2 tsp

Chopped onion – 1 cup

Chopped curry leaves – 2 tbsp

Chopped green chilli – 1 tbsp


1. Soak chana dal in water for 1 hour. Then drain the water completely and reserve 2 tbsp of soaked dal in a separate bowl.

2. Now grind this soaked kadalai paruppu ( chana dal ), dry chilli, cumin seed, asafoetida, salt into a coarse mixture. Be sure you are not adding a drop of water while grinding. If you add water you can’t shape paruppu vadai and even if you shape it with effort, yours will end up oily .

3. Now add onion, ginger, curry leaves, green chilli and suji rawa into the prepared masal vadai dough. Mix it well and check salt. These vadas will become crispy if you add suji rawa.

4. Now shape the dough, drop them into the hot oil. Fry these masal vadai till brown on medium flame.
